The photography exhibition "The Riace Bronzes - A route through pictures" commemorating the 50th anniversary of their discovery, a momentous event that changed the course of our nation's cultural legacy, is on display at the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence until March 12. A homage to the strength and iconographic beauty of the Riace Bronzes, which are unquestionable masterpieces of fifth-century BC Greek art. The series of eight images plus eight images of statue A and statue B tells a slow and constant story that "emphasizes the bronze epidermis, which is different for each subject and takes shape, density, and brightness, and the chiaroscuro of the bodies is tinged with the multiform spectrum of bronze, which, as the light changes, shows body surfaces that dialogue with the eye of the observer," as the author of the pictures, Luigi Spina, says. "As part of the David 140 program, which commemorates the 140th anniversary of Michelangelo's masterpiece in the Tribune of our museum - says the director of the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence, Cecilie Hollberg - we wanted to bring together, if only digitally, the sculptures of the most beautiful and strong heroes of art: the statues rose from the sea of Riace, repaired and shown for the first time in Florence, described here by the stunning photographs of Luigi and, our David to celebrate two important birthdays”.
