The presence of foreign tourists in Italy between Christmas, New Year and Epiphany rises to over 5 million, with a decisive reversal of the trend after the difficulties of the last two years. This is what Coldiretti estimates, pointing out that the positive forecasts for year-end holidays are supported by a 2022 in which foreign travelers in Italy practically doubled (+94%), although arrivals remain 26% lower than in 2019, the year before the pandemic, as shown by the analysis of Bankitalia data for the first nine months. Almost 2 out of 3 foreign travelers arriving in Italy (72%) – underlines Coldiretti – come from the European Union but the attendance from the United Kingdom (3.6 million) and the United States (2.2 million) are equally significant. Holidaymakers from abroad in Italy are strategic for tourist hospitality especially in the most popular destinations also because – continues Coldiretti – visitors from these countries traditionally have a high spending capacity for accommodation, food, transport, entertainment, shopping and souvenirs. In particular, the consumption of meals in restaurants, pizzerias, trattorias or agritourisms, but also the purchase of street foods, souvenirs or food and wine specialties is for many tourists the main motivation of the trip to a country like Italy which is the only one in the world that can count on the primates in quality, environmental sustainability and safety of its agri-food production. In the choice of destinations, foreigners in Italy – concludes Coldiretti - particularly appreciate the cities of art but also the mountain resorts, thus contributing to the positive estimates for the snow sector in the winter of 2022, after the good results of the bridge of the Immaculate Conception.
