After two years in which the flu has circulated little or no, overwhelmed by individual protection devices and other measures taken to limit the spread of Covid, this year the respiratory infections typical of the cold season have returned to spread with greater force and well in advance of the past. According to statistical data, the contagion curve is in fact among the highest in the last ten years: there are about 4.5 million Italians already affected by influenza syndromes, among which the so-called "Australian" stands out, and the number is destined to increase with an expected peak precisely during the Christmas holidays, a few weeks before the classic peak of January-February. "There are already many cases of flu syndrome certified so far. Compared to the past, when the flu was more ‘diluted’ over time, this year the number of cases has grown a lot in a few weeks and at the end of winter we risk exceeding 10 million sick people, although much will depend on weather conditions and the prolongation of low temperatures" – says Prof. Fabrizio Pregliasco, Scientific Director of Influenza Observatory. Once again, it is children between 0 and 4 years of age who are the most affected category, followed by children between 5 and 14 years of age, both because of the smaller baggage of immune memories and because of the promiscuity typical of the environments in which they spend most of their time.
