It is forbidden to use mobile phones, but also iPads or similar devices, in class during lessons. With a circular circulated to schools, the Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara puts down to paper the ban on using the smartphone during classes, since it is an element of distraction and a lack of respect for teachers: the ban was in fact already established by the 1998 Student Statute and by a ministerial circular of 2007 of the then Minister Fioroni, but in fact it had so far been disregarded. "The interest of students, which we must protect, is to be in class to learn – explains Minister Giuseppe Valditara - Being distracted by cell phones does not allow them to follow the lessons in a profitable way and it is also a lack of respect for the figure of the teacher, to whom it is a priority to return authority". Valditara explains: "The common interest I intend to pursue is that of a serious school, which puts learning and commitment back at the center". A recent cognitive survey by the Seventh Senate Committee also highlighted the harmful effects that the uncritical use of electronic devices can have on the concentration, memory, and critical spirit of young people.
