Investments in energy efficiency translate into interventions that the family can do in their home to reduce electricity costs, for domestic and water heating: in 2021, 75.4% of families declare to have carried out interventions in the previous five years. This is what emerges from the ISTAT research report "Energy consumption of families for the years 2020 and 2021". 70.7% of households have made investments or interventions to reduce electricity costs. The regions with the highest percentages are Emilia-Romagna (75.5%), Umbria (74.6%), Lazio (74.5%) and Tuscany (74.0%); the Autonomous Province of Bolzano/Bozen, with 62.9%, has the lowest value since there are no interventions and investments prior to the period considered. Among the main investments to save on electricity bills is the replacement of traditional light bulbs with energy-saving ones (67.0% of households). Household electricity consumption is also attributable to the efficiency of household appliances: 22.4% of households said they had replaced obsolete appliances with more efficient models in the five years prior to the interview. Other types of savings are less common, such as the installation of current regulators or twilight switches or renewable energy systems for the production of electricity (photovoltaic, mini wind power, etc.).
