It's a major improvement that will make using the internet on the train much easier. The mobile radio coverage system with 4G technology throughout the route and in the tunnels of the Bologna-Florence High Speed line has been activated, within the time schedule, by the FS Italiane Group, TIM as leader and the operators ILIAD, Vodafone, and WINDTRE. The work to make the tunnels between Milan and Bologna ready for 4G technology was finished in July of last year. With the new activation, you can get full coverage of the high-speed route between Milan and Florence. In the coming weeks, TIM, RFI (FS Italiane Group), and other Operators will continue to do the technical checks that need to be done. In addition to updating the communication systems, the work also included updating the power supply equipment for the line. As planned, development on 4G technology will continue in 2023 from Florence to Rome and Naples, Turin to Milan, and Bologna to Venice. The goal is to make voice and data connections on high-speed lines more reliable, so that people who ride high-speed trains can always get good service. The goal of the FS group is then to bring these activities to regular lines, starting with the busiest ones, for the benefit of people who ride Intercity and Regional trains and companies that move freight by rail. With 4G technology, passengers can get a stable and high-quality connection even in places like train tunnels, thanks to the WiFi service on board the train and the direct coverage of all TLC Operators who have joined the project.
