Italy is fifth in the world in terms of life expectancy with an average of 84.01 years (81.90 for men and 85.97 for women). This was noted by a new research carried out by the US health network NiceRx which analyzed data from different countries comparing the data on life expectancy with that of health spending. Only Hong Kong, Japan, Switzerland and Singapore are better than Italy. As for health spending, however, the research confirms a figure much lower than that of most Western countries, with an average per capita expenditure at the same purchasing power of 4,038 dollars that places Italy in the 20th place in the ranking. The first place in this case is for the United States, the second place is for Germany. Finally, the research measures the average waiting times for a hospitalization and also in this case Italy does not figure at the top of the ranking, reaching 15th place with a score of 0.27 out of 10 compared to the first place of Norway, which instead has a score of 8.13.
