Italy is interested in the Einstein Telescope (ET), the biggest detector of gravitational waves. And it is exactly for this reason that the Einstein Telescope Infrastructure Consortium (ETIC) has begun its operations. Etic is a project in which universities and national research organizations participate, and it intends to assist Italy's bid to host the Einstein Telescope (ET), one of the most ambitious projects identified under the roadmap of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructure, ESFRI (the body responsible for indicating scientific research priorities to governments, as a research infrastructure of strategic interest to Europe). The project, which was proposed by the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) and funded with 50 million euros, will spend the next 30 months planning and carrying out a feasibility study and characterizing the site in Italy that has been chosen to house the Einstein Telescope. But what will this telescope be used for? The ET will be the biggest detector of gravitational waves ever made. Since it is 10 times more sensitive than its predecessors, it will help us learn more about dark matter and energy, as well as how general relativity and quantum mechanics can work together.
