The incomes of Italian psychologists in 2021 grew by 28.57% from an average of 13,554 euros to 17,426 euros. Their turnover in one year increased from 1.2 billion euros to more than 1.7 billion euros. The Psychologist bonus, which was provided by the government and was reintroduced in the last Budget Law, certainly played a role in these results. The law, which was enacted after the COVID-19 season, provides a state incentive to encourage people to take care of themselves and spur them on to treatment with a psychotherapist. In the past two years, cases of anxiety and depression among Italian citizens have increased significantly, due to the pandemic and the uncertainty related to the war between Russia and Ukraine: this is evidenced by the fact that the number of people who have turned to a psychologist has increased, in 2021, by 25%, which is a figure that is reflected in the profession's income. The most extraordinary figure comes from Sicily, which marks a 52.93% increase, with psychologists' annual net incomes rising from 8,592 to 13,140 euros. The Psychologist bonus is financed with 25 million euros and has an individual ceiling of 600 euros; 395,000 applications arrived, and about 40,000 were approved.
