Italy presents itself as a country marked by significant social divides (for more than 6 out of 10 Italians, the largest ones are those between rich and poor and between honest and crafty). 66% of people believe they are positioned at the bottom of the social pyramid and there is a clear perception of a substantial blockage of the social elevator, with fewer than 4 out of 10 Italians thinking that their children can aspire to a better social position. These are the main features of the social conditions of our country found in the FragilItalia Report "The social elevator is blocked," presented by Legacoop Area Center and IPSOS research group, based on the results of a survey conducted on a representative sample of the population, to test opinions related to the issue. Among the largest social divides are, in equal measure, those between the rich and the poor and between the honest and the crafty (61% , but, respectively, 66% and 67% in the working class); in third place, there is the divide between the people and the elites (56%, 64% among the over-65s); in fourth and fifth place, again in equal measure, between Italians and immigrants and between stable and flexible work (46%).
