The rapid increase in cases of COVID-19 in China, the country from which the Coronavirus pandemic started in 2020, the abandonment of the zero-Covid policy by Beijing authorities and all travel restrictions, and the stop to case reporting have prompted Italy to reintroduce border controls. Health Minister Orazio Schillaci signed an order reintroducing rapid tests for travelers arriving from China. "I have ordered by ordinance mandatory COVID-19 antigen swabs and related virus sequencing for all passengers coming from China and transiting through Italy," the minister said. The tests are already being carried out at Milan Malpensa (where in the first flights tested the percentage of positives is huge, over 50%) and will soon start again at Rome's Fiumicino airport.
