"One of the times when the counterfeiting market is at its peak is around the Christmas season. Italy recorded 14,309 seizures in 2021, an increase of 63% compared to the previous year; about 31 million items were confiscated, with an estimated economic worth of 56.5 million euros ". This is stated in a study compiled by the environmental group FareAmbiente, the Carabinieri Command, and the Guardia di Finanza. According to the study, "the majority of counterfeit goods confiscated were packaging and labeling materials, personal protection equipment, apparel and its accessories, toys, footwear, and electrical equipment. Lombardy, the region with the highest number of seizures (3,297, or 23% of total seizures) in 2021, and Tuscany, the region with the highest quantities of seized goods (approximately 8 million items, or 27% of the total seized) and greater estimated economic value of the seized goods (approximately 16 million euros, or 28% of the estimated total) are most affected by the action to combat counterfeiting".
