The year 2022 ends with a plus sign in the Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PDO. Specifically, certified bottles had a record-breaking surge of 43% in comparison to 2021, surpassing the +30% growth seen in the previous year. The figures are provided by the Protection Consortium, the only entity mandated by law since 2009 to oversee, safeguard, and promote Modena's black gold. According to the statistics, the Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PDO supply chain certified as many as 145 thousand packages, which is encouraging news for the industry given the hardships of the years during the pandemic. 2022 was also the year that the Consortium began the practice of recognizing the homonymous Food District for the promotion and development of the reference product, the improvement of the supply chain, and the preservation of the territory's culture and history.
