Italy is in eighth position worldwide for the average cost of data breaches, that are cyber attacks aimed to violate the data of companies, public administrations or citizens. This has been noted by recent research conducted and published by Proxyrack, according to which the top of this ranking is the United States, with an average cost for victims of just over nine million dollars per attack, followed by the Middle East and Canada, where the average damage for each data breach is respectively 6.4 and 5.9 million dollars. In fourth place is Germany, followed by South Korea, the United Kingdom and France. As for Italy, the average damage to a company that is the victim of data breach attacks is 3.6 million dollars. The ranking is closed by South Africa (3.2 million dollars) and Australia (2.8 million dollars). According to Proxyrack's surveys, the sector most attacked by data breaches is the healthcare one, with an average cost for each attack of 9.2 million euros; the financial sector follows, where each attack involves an average cost for the victim of 5.7 million dollars, and the pharmaceutical sector comes right after (5 million dollars).
