In 2022, over 700 million bottles of Italian sparkling wine were uncorked abroad. This is 2/3 of the national production. For the first time, the value of exports exceeded 2 billion euros (+23%). Regarding toasts from all over the world, sparkling wine has surpassed French champagne in quantity, which is still produced at higher prices. Outside the national borders, the most passionate consumers are the Americans, who spent 13% more on Italian bubbles in 2022, while in second place are the British with an increase of 27%. At lower values is Germany, which in any case reaches +14% in value. In the ranking of the world's favorite Italian sparkling wines is Prosecco, which is by far the best-selling sparkling wine. The trend of demand is also positive in Italy, where 95 million bottles were uncorked during the holidays at the end of the year. However, increases in production costs due to expensive energy weigh on success. The price increases were up to +170% for fertilizers while a glass bottle costs up to 70% more than last year. The prices of corks, labels and packaging cartons have also increased, with increases of 35% and 45% respectively.
