The Bank of Italy has presented the Strategic Plan 2023-2025, in which a strong commitment to the ecological and energy transition is foreseen, for the benefit of the community and future generations. Central banks are in a position where they can help direct investments towards more sustainable ones and can urge the financial system to increase its resilience to risks related to climate change and the energy transition. Also on the domestic front, the Bank will develop a long-term programme to reduce its net greenhouse gas emissions to zero over the three-year period. The main levers to be operated are those of the progressive energy efficiency of buildings and plants, of the increase in the share of electricity self-produced from renewable sources, of the use of more sustainable mobility solutions in home-office travel and business trips, as well as direct reforestation interventions.
