The cost of living is the greatest issue for 93% of European inhabitants, according to the latest Eurobarometer study released by the European Parliament on January 12th. Citizens expect the European Union to continue working on potential solutions that might reduce the consequences of the crisis, as support for the EU remains strong. In each Member State, more than seven out of ten respondents expressed worry on the growing expense of living. The greatest rates are seen in Greece (100%), Cyprus (99%), Italy, and Portugal (98% each). Each and every demographic group, regardless of factors like gender or age, experienced hardship as a result of the recent spike in energy and food costs. The second most cited concern (82%) is the threat of poverty and social exclusion, followed by climate change and the spread of the war in Ukraine to other countries in third place with 81%. In Italy, climate change and poverty and social exclusion occupy second place (both 92%). Citizens expect that the EU will continue working on potential remedies to reduce the worsening consequences of the continent's many problems. "As more families struggle to make ends meet, the growing cost of living is clearly causing widespread worry. Now is the moment for us to guarantee solutions that will keep our expenses under control, descrease inflation, and expand our economies. We must defend society's most vulnerable members "said European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
