The environmental conditions split Italy again, this time struggling with the lack of snow in the Apennines. If, on the one hand, Roberto Failoni, the councilor for Tourism and Sport of the Autonomous Province of Trento, and the other councilors of the Alpine regions have said in a joint statement that the Alps are in ideal conditions for ski-ability and winter tourism, on the other hand, there is concern about the lack of snow in central Italy. Apennine region activities have suffered losses estimated at $50 million, and Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè has called a meeting to discuss the issue and promise solutions within two to three weeks. The assistance measures, according to Santanchè, will concentrate on four directives: "We have a ministry fund to finance improvements for ski lifts and snowmaking - says the minister - and we've agreed that we can recover the expenditures that many of these damaged locations made in 2022." The second stage, she says, is to "liberate" the usage of Covid money. Concerning the third step, Santanchè said that she was in communication with Labor Minister Marina Calderone about the issue of social safety nets: "We will proceed in this manner since seasonal employees cannot be laid off in derogation. We also want to give answers to seasonal workers, which in this case, also include, for example, ski instructors".
