The pigeons that populate the squares of Italian cities refer to an age-old public health issue linked to their widespread. For this reason, in several Italian cities law enforcement agencies have begun to sanction those who give them food. The last episode happened in Lecce and is on the verge of overzealousness. The case was reported to the Sportello dei Diritti (Rights Desk): a Filipino citizen was with his four-year-old son, the latter intent on chasing and feeding some crumbs to the pigeons that flutter and perch in Piazza Italia, which has long gone to the chronicles for its state of neglect. The agents of the Municipal Police imposed a fine of 166.70 euros directly to the parent, who, because of the language and the absence of signs on the spot prohibiting the administration of "food to the pigeons" (as it reads in the report), was literally shocked and did not say a word to contest it.
