The parade was accompanied by two wings of enthusiastic crowds, music and emotions. Hugs and pats on the shoulders. They were special moments for the crews enrolled in the “The Ocean Race”, in the 50th special edition. After many months of work, the “D-day” has arrived. It was a special day especially for the sailors of Team Genoa, who after an incredible run showed up in Alicante with a highly admired hull that will now be measured in the first 1900 miles of the race. To greet the skipper Gerwin Jansen and his international crew were on the quay the mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci, the Italian ambassador to Spain Riccardo Guariglia and the rear admiral of the Navy Massimiliano Nannini. “The adventure has begun,” says the mayor. “Now the sporting challenge begins, and when these boats arrive in Genoa it will be a fantastic party.” There was a double start for the 11 teams in the race: first the start for the six VO65 with the Italian-Austrian boat with the cross of San Giorgio on the hull and an international crew in which the Italians Cecilia Zorzi and Alberto Riva stand out; then it was the turn of the 5 IMOCA60 boats, whose tricolor presence is represented by Francesca Clapcich, who is in her second participation and embarked on the favorites of "11 Hours Team Racing". From Alicante to Genoa, the start of the regatta was followed live at the Old Port of Genoa through the maxi-screen of "Genoa The Grand Finale", which will broadcast every day images of the regatta around the world until the party that will close this edition at the Waterfront of Levante, from June 24 to July 2.
