After a 30-year evasion, the Carabinieri of the Ros, the GIS, and the territorial commands of the Sicily Region apprehended Matteo Messina Denaro, considered the boss of the bosses of Cosa Nostra, a 30-year fugitive sentenced to life in prison for orchestrating the massacres at Capaci and Via D'Amelio. Initial reports indicate that Denaro was apprehended inside a Palermo health institution where he had gone to get therapeutic rehabilitation. He had gone to the medical institution for a day hospital. It seems that the now-former super fugitive had recurrent oncological treatments at this facility. The inquiry that led to his arrest was managed by Maurizio De Lucia, the prosecutor of the Republic of Palermo, and Paolo Guido, his deputy.
