The countdown to the eleventh European Artisan Gelato Day, which is the only day the European Parliament has ever dedicated to a food, will start at the 44th edition of SIGEP-The Dolce World Expo, the International Exhibition of Artisan Gelato, Pastry, Bakery, and Coffee of Italian Exhibition Group, which will be held from 21 to 25 January at the Rimini exhibition center. The “Gelato Day” is celebrated annually on the 24th of March throughout the Old Continent (and beyond) with events, meetings, and initiatives that contribute to the enhancement of this globally adored product and its vital supply chain. And it is a love that knows no crises. After the months of the epidemic, artisanal gelato sales in Europe reached a new high in 2022, with a turnover of about 10 billion euros, up 13% from the previous year (9.83 billion euros in 2022 against 8.7 in 2021). The rise, to which inflationary dynamics undoubtedly helped, was primarily driven by a particularly good environment and the resumption of visitor flows, which, in certain regions, enabled sales trends to reach peaks of over 20%.
