In 2022, Italian wine exports hit an all-time high of 8 billion euros, a 12 percent increase over the previous year. The estimations were provided during the ninth edition of the Forum Wine Monitor by Nomisma. This is an undeniable triumph, even though Italy continues to lag behind France, which in 2022 shipped wine worth 12.5 billion euros, an increase of 12.5% over the previous year. On the other hand, the average export price of Italian wines was also 40% lower in 2022. Therefore, the same height differential that existed 10 years ago has not yet been filled. The 2023 vintage of Italian wine began with several obstacles. The first danger comes from Brussels, which has threatened to place identical health warnings on the labels of wine bottles as are seen on cigarette packages. The second danger is an economic recession.
