On the occasion of its 400th birthday, the Goldoni Theatre in Venice will be renovated. Beginning on February 1st, the Municipality will begin a series of renovations that will make the world's oldest dramatic theater more efficient and safe. In the meantime, the Malibran Theater, in conjunction with the La Fenice Foundation, will host the current season's performances. Particularly, the interventions will include replacing the chairs in the stalls and modifying the electrical system. The extraordinary maintenance plan will need the closure until September to permit a series of structural repairs that will result in the issuance of the Fire Prevention Certificate. They will also intervene in the security, fire extinguishing, and detecting systems, as well as beneath the stalls, where there is a tangle of asbestos pipes that are currently covered but will be changed on the occasion. Four specially designed stations will be installed for persons with mobility impairments, and all of the chairs in the area will be reconfigured to make them more accessible. In accordance with international specifications, the space will also be outfitted with a new audio system to supplement the old one, which will be disguised with the existing structures. In 2020, a first phase of construction totaling 1,2 million euros had already been finished.
