Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of the president of the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy presented by Monsignor Joseph Marino, titular archbishop of Natchitoches (Louisiana), apostolic nuncio, who took advantage of the possibility of anticipating his retirement at the age of 70. Just last Monday Monsignor Marino, born in 1953 in Birmingham (Alabama), turned 70. The Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy takes care of the preparation of priests destined for the diplomatic service of the Holy See at the various nunciatures or at the Secretariat of State of the Holy See. Marino was appointed president in October 2019, having served in Malaysia, East Timor and Brunei. Marino has been a priest since 1979 and began his diplomatic career in the Philippine nunciature in 1988, then served from 1991 to 1994 in Uruguay, in Nigeria from 1994 to 1997, and since 1997 in the Balkans, also serving in Belgrade during the Kosovo conflict. Archbishop Marino was also a member of the delegation sent by the Holy See to the White House before the Second Gulf War in 2003, led by Cardinal Pio Laghi and aimed at avoiding attack.
