The origin label that obliges to indicate on the pasta the national or foreign origin of the wheat used, as requested by 96% of consumers, is safe. This is what Coldiretti says in a statement that positively comments on the judgments by the regional administrative court (TAR) of Lazio, which rejected the appeals of some industries against the decree with which the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies and the Ministry of Economic Development in mid-2017 imposed on pasta producers the obligation to indicate on the label the country of cultivation of wheat and the country of milling in order to guarantee complete and transparent information, functional to allow a free and conscious choice. This measure is valid again this year, underlines Coldiretti, thanks to the signature of the Ministers of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, Francesco Lollobrigida, Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, and Health, Orazio Schillaci, to the inter-ministerial decree that extends until December 31, 2023 the experimental regimes of the indication of origin as strongly requested by Coldiretti. The decree provides that dry pasta packages produced in Italy must indicate the name of the country in which the wheat is grown and that of milling. If it comes from or has been milled in several countries, the following statements may be used, depending on the case: EU countries, non-EU countries, EU and non-EU countries. In addition, if durum wheat is grown at least 50% in a single country, such as Italy, you can use the words: "Italy and other EU and/or non-EU countries". This measure has prompted all the main agri-food industries to promote production lines today with the use of cereal entirely produced in the national territory. To buy the real 100% Made in Italy pasta, continues Coldiretti, just choose the packages that bear the indications "Country of wheat cultivation: Italy" and "Country of milling: Italy".
