The European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) “Save Cruelty-Free Cosmetics” broke the barrier of the required one million validated signatures, reaching over one million and two hundred thousand declarations of support from signatories. The International Organisation for the Protection of Animals, together with other associations, has collected signatures throughout the Old Continent. In Italy they signed 91,992 citizens, far exceeding the minimum threshold of 53,580. This is a success for our country, as the validated signatures were 100%. The European Commission will now have to meet with activists and respond to citizens' concerns. Every year in the European Union more than 10 million animals suffer from experiments that can be replaced by new animal-free technologies. Most of these failures provide reliable predictions about the effects on humans.
