Last year in Italy 265 thousand companies closed down and 313 thousand were born. The balance was therefore positive, with 48,000 more activities between January and December. This corresponds to a growth of 0.8% which, net of +1.42% in 2021, represents the best figure of the last decade. The most important contribution to the annual result came from the construction sector, which accounts for more than 40% of the national balance. Among the regions involved, Lazio remains the most dynamic one, with a growth rate of 1.6%, although slightly slowing down compared to 2021 (when it had grown by 2.2%). As for the sectors, in addition to construction (+20,509), those that recorded the largest increases in the number of registered companies in 2022 were scientific and technical professional activities (+10,474) and business services (+4,968). Trade (-8,756), agriculture (-3,363) and manufacturing (-2,549) closed in the red. In 2022, Rome recorded the best national growth rate (+1.77%, more than double the national average of +0.79%). Last year in Rome there were 26,564 registrations compared to 18,565 cessations.
