“Kering and Gucci are pleased to announce that Sabato De Sarno will assume the role of Creative Director of the house.” This is how French luxury giant announced the successor of Alessandro Michele. De Sarno will present his first collection at Milano Moda Donna next September. In his new role, De Sarno will lead the brand's style office reporting his work to Marco Bizzarri, President and CEO of Gucci, with responsibility for defining and expressing the brand's creative vision in women's, men's, leather goods, accessories and lifestyle collections. Sabato De Sarno grew up in Naples. He began his career in Prada in 2005, then moving to Dolce & Gabbana, before joining Valentino in 2009, where he held positions of increasing responsibility, until his appointment as fashion director, with the task of supervising the men's and women's collections. Recently, Gucci's business has been doing well but not very well. In the third quarter of 2022, Gucci achieved a turnover of 2.58 billion euros, up 18%. In the same period Yves Saint Laurent saw a rise of 40% and Bottega Veneta of 20%. Both brands are owned by the French giant of the Pinault family.
