"The international community has a sacred obligation to defend a country that has been assaulted, but it is equally vital that people be informed of the growing likelihood of a direct conflict with Russia and its potential repercussions. It is a fallacy to hide behind the motto "let's support Ukraine but not go to war with Russia."" This was stated by Rocco Cangelosi, ambassador and former diplomatic advisor to the Quirinale. "The decision to equip American Abrams and German Leopard tanks reunites the NATO front after the Ramstein rupture, but it also signals, at least on a psychological and narrative level, an intensification of the current confrontation in Ukraine. The indirect NATO-Russia conflict is becoming more apparent as a direct conflict. We have chosen, in the name of international law and the defense of our own sovereignty, to protect Ukraine's sovereignty against Russian aggression. We must thus be cognizant of the potential repercussions of such a commitment, including the possibility of war with Russia. The government and political forces owe their people a clear explanation of the stakes to avoid their involvement in a tragic conflict without their knowledge".
