Terna, the company in charge of the national electricity transmission grid, signed new Memoranda of Understanding with environmental organizations yesterday for the development and construction of increasingly sustainable electricity infrastructures that are integrated into the territories and are respectful of the environment and biodiversity. In particular, the collaboration between Terna, Greenpeace Italia, Legambiente, and WWF Italia aims to improve the environmental sustainability of the Ten-Year Development Plan of the Italian transmission grid and Terna's Industrial Plan in order to decarbonize the electricity system. This will be done through a concrete and constant dialogue and institutional comparison on matters and measures of mutual interest. The agreements will enable the launch of a debate on future energy scenarios and technological innovations in electricity networks to support renewable energy sources, based on the goals established by the European legislative packages and national directives contained in the PNIEC and the NRRP. Furthermore, they will concentrate on the spatial integration of other resources required for the energy transition, such as storage systems and sustainable energy sources, particularly offshore wind farms.
