"We will finally be independent of Russia this year, after having purchased 40% from Moscow in 2021 and 16% the year before. From next year we will also be able to supply other countries and in a short time we will become the European gas hub, also thanks to the doubling of the Azerbaijani TAP". So said Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprise, in an interview with Il Messaggero on the occasion of a mission to Baku, Azerbaijan, to increase supplies for Italy. "There are other industrial opportunities with Baku, as demonstrated by the Ansaldo Energia contracts that will be signed today, which are truly significant for the company's relaunch, and the renewable energy and electricity projects presented to my colleague Pichetto during his recent visit. Strategic partnership that now extends beyond energy - the minister continues - I will discuss it with President Ilham Aliyev, as well as the ministers of Economy, Energy, and Foreign Affairs. Excellent opportunities for Made in Italy, industrial and commercial collaboration". As for the possibility that Italy from 2024 can look at energy supply with greater tranquility, he adds: "with the two regasification plants in Piombino and Ravenna that will be installed before the summer, we will be free from Russia: they will produce 10 billion cubic meters of gas, exactly those imported from Moscow last year".
