According to the CNR, a percentage between 6% and 15% of the Italian population now lives in territories exposed to a severe or extreme drought: this is only one of the striking data describing a country in serious water difficulty reported by the ANBI Observatory on Water Resources, which weekly records the worsening of the situation even in the face of upcoming and desired rainfall. Moreover, the absence of rain in February returns to give a glimpse of the spectrum of drought also along the Tyrrhenian areas of central Italy. Meanwhile, the mild temperatures of the current month mean that the already scarce snowpack in the Alpine regions is thinning further. The Po River District Basin Authority estimates the available value of SWE (Snow Water Equivalent) at 1.8 billion cubic meters over the entire Po Basin. According to the CNR, the amount of snowfall since the beginning of the year in the Alps is lower than the average values of the decade 2011-2021. In Valle d 'Aosta, the snow cover is decreasing throughout the region: even on the Grandes Murailles in two weeks it has gone from 144 to 128 centimeters; on the western strip, which is usually affected by the most abundant snowfalls, the white blanket remains on average on 52 centimeters.
