“In these days that separate us from the important meeting of the National Assembly, with a view to working already for the utmost unity of this party, the responsibility we feel is precisely to keep this vital and lively democratic community together, to take care of its history and its values as guardians, to project them into the future in the face of new and crucial challenges for the future of the country, of Europe.” With these words Elly Schlein inaugurated her course as secretary of the Democratic Party, just after the handover with the outgoing secretary Enrico Letta in the national headquarters of the PD. “Of course, as we hold this history together, we also hold together the cultures that have shaped this party: I am a native democrat and it is our time, we are already sons and daughters of the hybridized cultures that have made the history of this party. Being able to keep them together today is fundamental because we all need to work for the revival, to raise our heads, to reorganize an opposition both in Parliament and in the country.” “Keeping the community together is essential, but without – warned Schlein - giving up more of a clear, understandable political line, which is the one that yesterday the people who voted in the primaries decided to reward. These days we will discuss important choices, which also mark the new method of which I have often spoken, a shared and plural method”.
