For the first time the Ryder Cup, one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world, will be held in Italy this year. From September 29th to October 1st, the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club of Guidonia Montecelio, a town 20 kilometers from the center of Rome, will host the 44th edition of the tournament in which the best American and European golfers traditionally compete. The Ryder Cup has a nearly century-long history and is the only major sporting event in which Europe competes as a single entity. The tournament is held every two years, and the one that will be held at the gates of Rome next autumn will be the second edition following Brexit, which has not changed the division of the teams: British golfers are still involved in the European selection. It is a well-known event internationally, more than it is in Italy. The Italian movement, on the other hand, hopes that by organizing the tournament, golf will gain more popularity and new fans. Tens of thousands of spectators from all over the world are expected to flock to Rome between September and October to watch the Ryder Cup. The total expected audience is almost 300 thousand spectators, with an average of about 50 thousand entrances to the club for each day. Tickets are sold out, but some hospitality packages worth thousands of euros are still available. It is also no longer possible to book rooms in several luxury hotels in Rome.
