More than 40% of new car buyers in Milan today choose electric vehicles. The city is at the top of the list of Italian cities for hybrid and electric car sales. Despite a significant drop in the market in the previous year, Anfia, the Italian Association of the Automotive Industry, reports that 2,634 electric cars and more than 32,000 hybrids have been registered in the province of Milan. In Milan, those with greater financial resources opt for the electric, as prices remain high, so those seeking to save money opt for the stalls. However, Italy is the only market where registrations of fully electric vehicles are declining. Electric car registrations in Italy fell by -27.1% in 2022 (market share of 3.7%), while they increased in all other large European countries: Germany +32.3%, the United Kingdom +40.1%, France +25.3%, and Spain +30.6%. Consumers in Italy are waiting for government incentives that are not forthcoming.
