Tourism remains active. After the significant recovery of 2022, it is anticipated that the current year will also see an increase in tourist arrivals from Italy and abroad. The sector's expansion, however, is colliding with increasing difficulty in finding personnel: for Easter and the spring months of bridges holidays - periods of peak demand - it is possible to estimate that over 50 thousand workers are 'missing' in tourism businesses. Assoturismo Confesercenti is responsible for sounding the alarm, based on CST's labor market research. In 2022, the number of overnight stays in Italian accommodations reached 400 million, and the outlook for 2023 is positive on both the domestic and international tourism fronts. A paradoxical situation: on the one hand, production is increasing, and new jobs are being created, while on the other hand, companies in the sector continue to experience labor shortages. Indeed, the difficulty in locating personnel has taken on a structural form, which has been manifesting itself regularly since the pre-pandemic years, but which is becoming more severe as the sector recovers.
