According to Terna, the company in charge of the national transmission grid, electricity demand in Italy totaled 25.1 billion kWh in February, a 2.2% decrease from the same month in 2022. The industrial sector also fell, -6.8% compared to February 2022. With seasonally adjusted values, the change from January 2023 is positive and equal to +4.7%. National demands decreased by 3.5% in the first two months of the year compared to the same period in 2022 (-3.7% adjusted value). In particular, this February had the same number of working days (20) and a monthly average temperature that was about 0.7 ° C lower than the same month in 2022. The electricity demand figure, seasonally adjusted and temperature adjusted, fell by 3.3%. The trend change in February 2023 was substantially stable in the South and islands (+0.2%), negative in the North (-3.4%), and negative in the Centre (-1.7%). In cyclical terms, the value of electricity demand, seasonally adjusted and temperature adjusted, increased by 1.1% in January of this year compared to January of last year. In February 2023, domestic production met 81.2% of Italy's electricity demand, with the remaining (18.8%) met by the balance of energy exchanged abroad. Clearly, national production has decreased to 20.5 billion kWh (-8.2%). Renewables met 27.5% of total electricity demand.
