Every year, the QS University Rankings by subject gives a complete picture of the ranking of universities worldwide: which universities are the best performers? How do Italian universities do in the world rankings? The comparative analysis takes into account the performance of 15,200 individual university programs attended by students from more than 15700 universities in 93 countries. In this series of rankings, QS includes 56 Italian universities that achieve 530 placements (+39 compared to the last edition) in the 54 academic disciplines of this ranking-including three new ones compared to the last edition: Data Science, Marketing, and Art History-and 96 placements (+2 compared to the last edition) in the rankings of the five macro areas of study (arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences, natural sciences, and social sciences). Italy ranks seventh in the world in the number of places in the rankings, and this year's overall performance improves by 6.8 percent. Italy also boasts a world record thanks to La Sapienza - University of Rome, which reconfirms itself as the best in the world in Classical Studies and Ancient History. Italy is second among EU countries in the number of places in the top ten in the world, after the Netherlands. Globally, U.S. universities lead in 32 subjects. Harvard University is the top-performing institution, ranking first in 14 subjects, two more than last year. British universities top 15 rankings, with Oxford and Cambridge Universities leading in four and two subjects respectively.
