Bicycle tourism is experiencing a surge in Italy. In 2022 there were over 33 million visitors, with an economic impact of more than 4 billion euros. Only "pure" cyclists, that is, Italian and foreign tourists who come to Italy specifically for a cycling vacation, accounted for over 9 million tourists, more than doubling the number in 2019. Along with these, there are tourists who travel for other reasons and spend part of their vacation on a bicycle; in the same year, it is estimated that nearly 24 million tourists were associated with this segment, with a total expenditure of nearly EUR 3 billion. The market is organizing with quality proposals, beginning with the interest of large foreign tour operators: not surprisingly, cycling tours are among the best-selling packages/booked for 2023, not only of regions now consolidated in this product, such as Tuscany, but also of emerging southern realities, such as Puglia and Basilicata. Also, specialized Italian tour operators are very optimistic about the market's future growth in 2023: 90% anticipate an increase in their own revenue.
