The work of protecting Italy's art assets continues. In 2022, Carabinieri recovered 80,522 pieces with a total value of 84 million euros. This is the overall figure in the dossier "Operational Activity 2022" of the specialized unit of the corps. In 2022 there is a gradual decrease in crimes against cultural heritage and the tightening of penalties. Recoveries in 2022 were mainly in the area of archaeological (17,275) and paleontological (21,359) artifacts, followed by antiquities, archives and books (9,653). In the area of counterfeiting, 1,241 works were seized, 951 of which were contemporary art. In addition, archaeological/paleontological artifacts (258) and antiquarian/archival and book goods (32) were seized, with a total estimated value of about 86,026,350 euros if placed on the market.
