"I have decided to give up the position of senator, I will resign in the coming week". Thus Democratic Senator Carlo Cottarelli has announced his resignation as a parliamentarian. "In this historical moment there is an extreme conflict between the two parties, this is not really in my style," Cottarelli explained first in a letter to the newspaper Repubblica, then by appearing on television, on RAI broadcaster, "Perhaps in my own small way I can play a more useful role for the country, going back to being a 'talking cricket’, or a popularizer". He then adds: "There is no mandate constraint, but to me it does not seem right to change parliamentary groups despite offers to move to other groups". Cottarelli has already announced that he will go on to direct a program for Education in Economic and Social Sciences aimed at high school students.
