There are almost three thousand Italian fishing vessels that will be "sunk" by the new European lines that foresee the disappearance of trawling, the most productive sector of the national navy, with a devastating impact on the economy on employment and consumption. This is the alarm raised by the fishermen of Coldiretti Impresapesca who have started the protest in ports all along the Peninsula even making the boats' sirens sound in unison. The trawling system accounts for as much as 65 percent of the national catch in terms of production, operating on average no more than 130 days a year. The new lines also call for restricting fishing areas with cuts of up to 30 percent of current ones, with tight deadlines in 2024, 2027 to end in 2030.
