Food exports increase by 15% in 2023, setting a new high after reaching a historical high of 60.7 billion euros last year, thanks to symbolic Mediterranean diet products such as pasta, fresh fruit and vegetables, and wine, which climb the podium of the best-selling Italian specialties abroad. This is the conclusion of Coldiretti's analysis of ISTAT data for the first two months of 2023, which was released in conjunction with Tuttofood in Milan. Food exports to France increased by 24% in 2023, outpacing Germany (+19%), the United States (+15%), and the United Kingdom (+12%). Overall, Germany remains the largest food outlet market, with a value of 9.4 billion in 2022, ahead of the United States, which has 6.7 billion and France, which ranks third with 6.6 billion. Positive results were also reported in the United Kingdom, with 4.2 billion euros, demonstrating how Italian exports proved to be stronger than Brexit, despite the initial difficulties associated with the country's exit from the EU. International tensions, the Ukraine war, and cross-embargoes that prevent the exchange of many products are weighing on Russian sales. According to Coldiretti's analysis, the Italian export champion is confirmed as wine for a value of 7.9 billion euros in 2022, thanks to a 10% increase in sales abroad. Pasta and other cereal derivatives come in second with 7.8 billion euros, while fresh fruit and vegetables come in third with 5.7 billion euros, followed by processed fruit and vegetables with 4.8 billion, cheeses with 4.4 billion, extra virgin olive oil with 1.8 billion, and cured meats with 0.9 billion.
