Webuild, in joint venture with Shibh Al Jazira Contracting Company, has signed the approximately €1.4 billion contract for the design and construction of 57km of high-speed rail line in Neom, along the north coast of the Red Sea, Saudi Arabia. Webuild (formerly Salini Impregilo) will lead a joint venture that will design and build a large portion of "Connector," the railway line that will connect Oxagon, Neom's advanced industrial center, with the futuristic city "The Line." Webuild estimates that over 4,000 jobs will be created during the construction process. The Line is a 170km-long city with no roads or car use that will be able to house up to 9 million people on an area of only 34 square kilometers. When finished, it will be powered entirely by clean energy derived from renewable sources such as solar and wind, as well as green hydrogen. Webuild has a 70% stake in the joint venture (40% as Webuild and 30% through its subsidiary Salini Saudi Arabia). The contract awarded to the joint venture entails the execution of double-tracked civil works for both the high-speed line and freight transport. Webuild has extensive experience in the high-speed sector, where it is leading the implementation of some of Italy's most difficult projects, such as the high-speed and capacity railway line Terzo Valico dei Giovi-Nodo di Genova, which will connect Genoa to Milan. It has a long history in Saudi Arabia, dating back to 1966.
