Only 24 hours after sending emails informing renowned physicist Carlo Rovelli of the cancellation of his speech at the opening ceremony of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Ricardo Franco Levi retraced his steps and renewed his invitation to the physicist to attend the event. In a note, the government's extraordinary commissioner for Buchmesse 2024 explained first of all that he had written that letter "without having received any pressure or solicitation" and that he had done so "to strictly fulfill the institutional responsibility conferred on me by a decree of the President of the Republic". Initially, Carlo Rovelli was supposed to represent Italy at the Frankfurt Book Fair, scheduled for October 2024, but instead his opening event had been canceled because of his attack made on Defense Minister Crosetto from the stage of the May Day Concert. Rovelli himself had then published the email informing him that he would no longer attend the opening of the Buchmesse. The echo of reactions, however, forced Levi to retrace his steps. However, the Defense Minister made it clear that he had no say in the matter and that he did not know Levi at all.
