Coldiretti blitz with hundreds of farmers from the countryside against the European Union's agribusiness decisions. A colorful demonstration welcomed Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice President of the European Commission in charge of climate action and the European Green Deal, yesterday in front of the Fusco City Theather in Taranto. At the head of the group of protesting farmers stood a large banner reading "No Europe without agriculture, no to lab food", but banners and signs read "Timmermans get over yourself!", "Timmermans think different!", "Stop polluted foreign foods, equal rules for all", and "Farming does not pollute". Under indictment are "the EU's follies at the table," in the words of the protesters, with the effects on agriculture of EU guidelines, from the "sieve" borders that let Xylella into Apulia to alarmist claims about wine, from traffic light labels that flunked tricolour excellence starting with Apulian extra virgin olive oil to the ban on trawling, from the directive dubbed "stables killer" to the green light for insect meal.
