The 39th Congress of the World Federation of Tailors will be held in Italy, in Biella, from July 31 to August 5. This was announced by Gaetano Aloisio, one of Italy's most successful men's tailors, President of the Rome-based National Academy of Tailors and Vice-President of the World Federation of Tailors. The "World Federation of Master Tailors" (WFMT) is the most important world association that brings together the best tailors around the globe-from the U.S. to Japan. In 2019, Biella was recognized as a UNESCO Creative City precisely for textile art and craftsmanship, and it is the district that produces as much as 36 million meters of woolen fabric a year out of the 70 million meters produced by all Italian companies. The last WFMT congress had also been held in Italy, in Verona in 2019, but this is the first time the same country has hosted this prestigious event since the stop imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The event will bring together more than 250 tailors from 28 countries and will also feature fashion shows and awards. While the World Federation was founded in Brussels in 1907, the National Academy of Tailors is the world's oldest association in the industry, having been established in the mid-1500s. Gaetano Aloisio, who now presides over the Academy, began his career very young and won the "Golden Scissors" award when he was only 22 years old. Since then Aloisio has collected a long list of successes. Today his clients include presidents, royalty, and entrepreneurs, and through the Academy, he strives to pass on to young people the knowledge and passion for a job that is one of Italian excellence.
