2022 was a record year for Italian investment in France "with 130 initiatives (up 45 percent from 2021)," as the French Embassy in Rome writes on Twitter, citing a latest report published by Business France on the day President Emmanuel Macron welcomes more than 200 foreign industrial executives to the Palace of Versailles to attract new investment to the country. The French diplomacy adds that "Italy thus re-enters the top 5 of the main foreign investors in France". Business France, which is in charge of promoting France's attractiveness, points out that the projects initiated by Italy "have made it possible to create or retain 2,656 jobs, with the number of jobs growing sharply (+45 percent) compared to the previous year". France thus confirms itself as "the main destination country for Italian investments in Europe," accounting for "61 percent of total Italian investments abroad, followed by Spain (13 percent) and Romania (6 percent)". More specifically, according to Business France, Italian companies invested mainly in upgrading existing activities in France (46.8 percent of projects). This is followed by the creation of new establishments (26.6 percent of projects) and acquisitions of struggling French companies.
