The Italian Piero Petrucco will be the new president of the European Construction Industry Federation, an association representing 3 million companies that, with 1,602 billion euros in annual turnover, guarantees 11.1 percent of the GDP of the 27 European countries. Petrucco was formally nominated as president-elect and will begin his term with the 2024 general assembly, succeeding Irish Philip Crampton, for the two-year term 2024-2026. Petrucco, CEO of Icop in Basiliano (Udine), has been elected to FIEC's steering committee since December 2019 with responsibility for sustainability and competitiveness. He is also currently Vice-President of Ance, the association of Italian builders. "I will deal in particular with the rules on building sustainability," said the newly elected man. "In Europe there will be a lot to do, both to try together to have rules that are economically compatible, and to try to make sure that in putting such strict steps for emission reduction targets and Agenda 2030, the EU also contemplates incentives, given the enormity of the volumes involved. The other point of focus will be the effort to rebuild Ukraine, which will have gigantic dimensions and will see Europe playing a leading role".
